88. Creation of large number of jobs and livelihood opportunities
Status: Jobs creation continues to remain a bone of contention since there is no authoritative data on employment generation in India. The Labour bureau surveys reveal decline in unemployment rate. Surveys from the Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy (CMIE) too indicate decline in the unemployment rate from 7.2% in May 2019 to 6.8% in Jan 2024, though its figures vary widely from the labour bureau’s. Difference however exists in the labour force participation rate (LPFR) i.e. ‘people in workforce’ as a percentage of ‘people of working age’. While the LFPR has improved in the labour bureau surveys, it has declined in the CMIE surveys in the past five years. i ii iii iv v vi vii viii
