Status: The government launched the ‘Study in India’ programme in April 2018 to increase the number of international students visiting India for education. The programme involves partnerships with over 160 Indian institutes and focuses on 48 countries across Southeast Asia, the Middle East and Africa. Key steps taken in the past five years include conducting the first-ever aptitude test for granting scholarships and admissions to foreign students and launching a dedicated portal as a single window system for student registrations and visa approvals. 4900 students took admission through the Study in India programme, compared to 780 in 2018-19. i ii iii
