Status: Launched in April 2019, phase II of Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of (Hybrid&) Electric Vehicles in India (FAME India) scheme is being implemented to generate demand and build a market for electric vehicles (EVs) in the country. Apart from providing subsidies to consumers on the purchase of e-vehicles, the government has also launched PLI schemes for manufacturing Advanced Chemical Storage (ACC), and 18% incentives for electric vehicles under PLI for Automobile and auto components. Other key measures include a new policy for EV manufacturing, waiving off road tax for EVs, reducing GST rates on e-vehicles and their chargers, and a rebate of Rs 1.5 lakh on interest paid on loans taken for buying e-vehicles.
