103. Making rail journey safe, clean and satisfying; private participation in amenities, infra & services
Status: Major new updates on cleanliness include 100% coaches fitted with bio-toilets, cleaning coaches (including toilets) at both ends of the journey, integrated mechanised cleaning at 953 Stations, third-party audits, and mandatory FSSAI certification to a catering unit. The environment of rail safety has also improved considering the figures shown below. On the customers’ satisfaction front, the government has rolled out the ‘Rail Madad’ platform (SMS, Web, App, Dak, Social Media and Helpline number-139) to address the grievances of travellers. Railways infrastructure needs an investment of Rs 50 lakh crore by 2030; for this, the government has begun pursuing PPP mode in network expansion, station redevelopment, train operations, freight terminals, rolling stock induction and other upgrades for better passenger and freight services. i ii iii iv v vi vii viii ix x
