Status: The indigenous production of defence items has increased by 34% in the past four years. The share of defence items purchased from domestic players too has increased. Major steps taken in the past five years include rolling out Defence Procurement Procedure (DPP)-2020 for higher indigenous content in defence purchase, reserving a big share of the defence purchase budget for domestic industry (75% in the current year), and releasing the list of 325 crucial military items and 4666 components which are procured only from domestic manufacturers after the given timelines expire. Key outcomes are a new HAL helicopter factory, a manufacturing facility of C-295 transport aircraft, and a tri-service military exercise ‘Bharat Shakti’ to showcase India’s indigenous defence capabilities. i ii iii iv v vi vii viii ix
